Jeff joined the CTE in 2004 and currently serves in the role of Co-Director, providing leadership for the CTE’s effort to develop programs and services that support the effective use of technology in teaching and learning. He earned his BA in Philosophy and Anthropology from Binghamton University, a MAEd from East Carolina University and an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Technology from the University of Virginia where he was a graduate fellow at the Center for Technology and Teacher Education. Jeff has over 15 years of experience teaching at the secondary and college level. Prior to joining the CTE he was an instructor at UVa's Curry School of Education, where he taught courses in educational technology and teaching methods to pre-service teachers. He also spent five years teaching general science at Shanghai American School in Shanghai, China. At VCU he teaches courses for the School of Education (ADLT 641 – Exploration of Digital Media for Adult Learning) and in the Preparing Future Faculty Program in the Graduate School (GRAD 602 – Teaching, Learning and Technology in Higher Education).

Jeff's research interests focus on faculty adoption and effective use of technology to support teaching practices. Current projects include working with faculty to explore the instructional uses of tablet PCs, web-based tools to support collaborative learning, developing resources to support transition to online teaching, and the role of faculty learning communities in sustaining meaningful uses of technology in teaching. In his free time, Jeff trades the wired world for mountain streams where he chases trout with a fly rod.
