This highly interactive workshop, designed as the first part of a two-part series, will help participants explore some of the most fundamental aspects of learning. Participants will be led through an exercise where they will identify a significant learning experience from their past; detailing some of the more salient characteristics of that experience. These collective experiences will provide a springboard for discussion about some of the underlying assumptions we have about how people learn and how these assumptions influence how we teach in higher education. Lastly, some of the most current research on how people learn will be presented and used to inform our discussion about the opportunities and challenges that we face as instructors.
